How does the trip budget work?

The Budget page (accessible from any trip) lets you add line items grouped by category — flights, lodging, food, activities, and so on. Each item has a low estimate and a high estimate.

The budget is intentionally a rough estimate to help you (and contributors) understand the cost of the trip. It does not need to match your funding goal exactly — many travelers set a funding goal that covers part of the trip and self-fund the rest.
