More to Roam
The gap year money question, answered

You don't have to pay for the whole gap year.

Not a loan. Not your savings. Your child raises it from the grandparents, aunts, uncles and godparents who already want to help — and you see every pound before it's spent.

Three ways this takes the weight off you

The money comes from the wider family

Grandparents, aunts, uncles and godparents are usually glad to be asked — they just need an easy way in. One link does it, so you're not the one making the calls.

You approve where every pound lands

Payouts go to a bank account you connect and control. Not a wallet, not a gift card, not held by us. You see the line-by-line budget before it goes live.

They do the work, not you

Your child builds the route, sets a realistic budget and writes their own pitch. It's part fundraiser, part life-admin masterclass — and it isn't another job on your list.

Set up together in under 10 minutes

Three simple steps between your family and their first contribution.

    1. 1

      Set up together

Under-18s can use More to Roam with a parent as the account owner and Stripe payee. Signup walks you through it.

    2. 2

      Build the trip

Your child adds destinations, dates and a story. You can review the budget before it goes live.

    3. 3

      Share with the family

A tasteful, private link the whole family can back — no group chats begging for money.

We'd braced ourselves to find the whole lot. Instead the wider family put in £1,900 we didn't have to — and she'd done all the planning herself, so it never felt like we were bailing her out.

    Questions, answered

Do I still have to cover the rest?
That's up to you. Most families use this to close the gap rather than replace their own contribution — you decide what you put in, and the campaign covers the rest.
Can my child use this if they're under 18?
Yes. A parent or guardian owns the account and the Stripe payout account, so funds land in your bank. Your child manages the campaign under your supervision.
Where does the money actually go?
Straight to the bank account you connect. Not a wallet, not a gift card, not held by us until the trip ends.
    Can I keep it private?
Yes — campaigns can be shared only via a private link. Nothing is posted publicly unless you choose to.
    How much does it cost?
Nothing to set up. We charge a 4.5% platform fee on funds raised, plus standard card processing — no subscriptions, no hidden fees.

The gap year doesn't have to come out of your savings.
